DURING mid-evening on Good Friday, mindless vandals took a chainsaw to a telegraph pole in Mordiford, dropping it across the highway, thus severing the telephone cable.

Laughing at their senseless act, the perpetrators drove off, leaving the pole across the road for unsuspecting motorists to encounter.

It was only through the actions of quick-witted householders who quickly rallied to highlight the hazard with vehicle headlights and direct traffic each side of the pole, that a serious accident was avoided.

Had the householders been elderly, with serious medical conditions and without a mobile phone, they would have been left in a dire situation, stranded without any communication.

Reporting the incident has caused much stress, inconvenience in loss of communication and business; and unnecessary expense to the utility company to have to make unscheduled repairs, which it seems may not be completed for many months, thanks to these stupid and childish imbeciles.

As another bank holiday weekend approaches, good country folk, be vigilant and on your guard. Report to the police anything that might be relevant.
