IN the last nine months I have picked up 40 bags of roadside rubbish from Green Crize to Little Dewchurch.
Frequently, people assume that my car has broken down and enquire if I need assistance, but that concern soon diminishes when I explain that I am simply picking up litter.
“Why? You must be mad, the council should do it...” they say. No! I take responsibility for picking up the late-night snacks, beer cans, plastic bottles, bags, clothing, car parts and even a brightly coloured bucket containing human faeces, left by the wayside.
If we all just stopped and picked up five pieces of litter a day we could restore our beautiful county in a matter of weeks.
Don’t ignore the problem – that plastic bottle by the roadside/grass verge is going to be around for a very long time unless you pick it up.
