I WRITE to support Coun- cillor Bob Matthews in his efforts to prevent what will amount to environmental vandalism if the destruction of the Three Elms /Huntington area in Hereford is permitted.

The loss of this beautiful countryside will decimate yet more of rural Hereford. A thousand houses probably equates to around 3,000 people and at least another 1,000 cars.

The impact on schools, the already desperately overstretched hospital, GP surgeries, social services and the limited employment will be severe, with the addition of yet another major estate on the western fringe, to add to the medley of minor developments.

Despite this constant building, nothing is being done to enhance the supporting infrastructure or take on more staff in the public sector.

Occupants will have daily business in the city and the choke point at Whitecross roundabout, impacting on Kings Acre Road, is already gridlocked at peak periods all the way into town, as is the Roman Road.

To knowingly compound this problem beggars belief, and if allowed, this entire concept will expose the council’s ‘green’ policy as a sham.

When will the planners say ‘enough is enough’ to protect the integrity of Herefordshire – their fundamental function?
