ONE hears regularly about how hard it is to find employment, but not so often from an employer’s perspective of how hard it is to find employees.

I advertised for staff online, and was surprised to receive about 50 CVs within a few weeks. I responded to each application with an invitation to visit us at the business premises, but only heard back from 15.

Of these 15 only seven bothered to come and visit us. Of these seven, I selected three people and sent them an offer of employment.

I invited these three individuals to a paid-for meal in Hereford, in order to meet existing members of the team – none of them turned up. I emailed each of them the next day to ask what had happened and I still haven’t heard back from any of them.
