I RECEIVED a letter, map and questionnaire from Balfour Beatty working on behalf of Herefordshire Council last March.

The letter intimated that a request to consider the introduction of waiting restrictions along roads including Westfield Walk in Leominster had been received following complaints of ‘outsiders’ using these areas to park.

A meeting had been held on site with local councillors to discuss the situation. As far as I am aware no residents were involved, which made the exercise pointless.

I filled in the questionnaire stating that I was totally opposed to residents having to pay to park outside their own properties.

Nothing more was heard until we attended a meeting with Leominster town councillor Wayne Rosser in January. Residents from the various roads affected attended and numerous points were discussed.

All present were opposed to the introduction of parking permits and Cllr Rosser informed us that this would be discussed at the February town council meeting.

We have heard nothing from any official source, but then a story appeared in the Hereford Times on March 5 stating that permits, which have to be paid for by residents to park outside their own homes, are to be introduced on various roads including Westfield Walk, where I live.

There is no way I will pay to park outside my property as the situation has been created by decisions made by various councils to allow developments in Westfield Walk without including adequate parking facilities.

Westfield Walk has also become a ‘rat run’ with traffic avoiding the traffic lights at the bottom of Bargates but I have not heard of any suggestions by councils or councillors to deal with this problem.

I would appreciate an official response to my letter in the hope that more sensible solutions can be discussed with residents.
