I WISH correct a headline on your recent story about a new local history book (More than 140 years of school’s history told, February 5).
The book is about the early decades of the ‘old’ school in Longtown titled ‘Self Portrait of a Village School: Longtown School Log Books 1873-1910’.
As the title makes clear, the period covered is just under 40 years so 100 years need deducting from your headline.
The book traces day-to-day life of the school from logbook entries made by the headmaster, and gives a vivid first-hand account of pupils, teachers and the community in later Victorian and Edwardian years.
