I REFER to the order made by Herefordshire Council on November 26 for a temporary speed limit on the A465 in Pontrilas.

I have written to my councillor, Graham Powell, regarding this restriction which in my opinion is too long (one mile) and not necessary.

I believe the order was written incorrectly as well. No vehicles are complying with the limit and it is bringing the law into disrepute.

The signing fails to meet requirements and the so-called reason for its introduction is totally spurious.

Unfortunately the council has done nothing to address this problem and the temporary limit that could be in place for 18 months is being ignored.

This is not how speed limits should be; they should be in place following proper and professional risk assessments and one would hope that West Mercia Police would have been asked for an opinion.

I have asked the chief constable of West Mercia Police for a copy of the force’s response to the consultation on this limit by way of the Freedom of Information Act.

I sincerely hope that the police take this matter seriously and take action to get the situation changed urgently.
