THERE has been two car crashes on Bodenham Road in Hereford within just six weeks!
With many multi-occupancy residences and large housing complexes for the elderly and infirm, this road is one of the most heavily populated areas of the city.
Many elderly people use the pavements and bus stops along the road and many children use it to walk to and from school. Given this fact and that the traffic clearly poses significant risk of injury or death to those using the pavements, the residents have requested action from the council for speed reduction measures to be implemented.
In 2013 a petition was presented to Cllr Brian Wilcox asking for something to be done to reduce speeds on Bodenham Road, yet nothing has been done.
The residents now hope that the council will take this issue seriously and engage with the residents to ensure the safety of all the pedestrians using the road and bus stops.
Residents hope that physical measures such as those introduced in other high-risk areas will be implemented. A 20mph limit, signage and chicanes etc would likely reduce the risk to an acceptable level.
