WELL, here we go again. A general election on the horizon and leading politicians from Conservative and Labour making promises about the NHS they know full well they can’t deliver.

Take GP services. David Cameron has made all sorts of declarations about what a fantastic service we are all going to have, but has he actually spoken to any GPs? I doubt it.

It seems by 2020 we are going to have GP surgeries open all hours, so how is Mr Cameron going to actually staff these surgeries with qualified and experienced doctors, when we already know a sizeable proportion are planning to retire early because they are sick and tired of political meddling, long hours and masses of paperwork?

In addition, I hear last year saw the record lowest number of people taking up GP training. So the numbers just don’t add up do they?

Labour are just as bad, with ideas dreamt up on the hoof. So my advice to politicians of all parties is to stop meddling in things you know nothing about and start listening to GPs and health professionals about the best way forward.

I have lived in this county for nearly 20 years and my experience of GP services has been nothing less than excellent but I try not to bother them with minor complaints and unnecessary visits.

On the occasions in the last two years when my health has gone a bit downhill (partly due to my age) the service provided by my GP practice has been first class and treatments at the County Hospital have been spot on.
