I RECEIVED a phone call last night which I would like to warn locals about.

The woman started with the usual script of not trying to sell me anything. Normally I would politely tell such callers to go away, but she mentioned the ambulance service in her ramblings.

She then got to the point which was about alarm systems that can be worn around the neck or with a pull cord on the wall. These devices are good if purchased from the right company, vulnerable people can find them a good insurance in times of a fall etc.

She went on to tell me that it could take four hours for an ambulance to respond, but if one of these devices was purchased an ambulance would appear almost straight away.

I then told her I had worked in the ambulance service for 25 years, mostly as a paramedic. Did this stop her? No, she just kept to her script.

Eventually I told her she should not be saying these things as it would worry some people. I informed her she was talking nonsense and hung up.

This woman was probably only trying to earn a living, but her employers need to be spoken to.
