A RECENT report on the long-awaited relief road for Hereford is lauded by Cllr Philip Price as great progress. When one examines the approved route linking the A49 with the A465 between Belmont and Allensmore, one wonders what relief it will bring as the continuation appears to be destined for Clehonger or even Madley. Perhaps a proposed incinerator?

If this were to relieve Hereford traffic, one would have expected the junction at the A465 to turn north, crossing the Wye at Ruckhall and linking with the A438.

The road to Rotherwas from the A49 currently terminates at a minor road, providing no relief, only access to the recycling site, or the industrial estate.

Would it not make more sense to spend the millions on extending the road from Rotherwas north to link with the A465 leading to the M5 and M50? This would allow heavy traffic to bypass Hereford and provide welcome relief for residents and commuters.
