I HAVE often wondered if our council cabinet may be, picnic wise, short of not just a sandwich but possibly the entire hamper.

Now I am convinced of it. Is the leader of Herefordshire Council Tony Johnson serious when he implies (Letters, October 30) that justifiably angry Hereford United fans who express their feelings on Twitter and social media are not "true fans"? Does criticism of possible incompetence equate to political mischief?

On the day we discover that the chief executive of Hereford Futures, an arm's length company set up by this cabinet (together with unelected senior council officers and a former director of HUFC) secretly discussed the possibility of selling the club's leases to Morrisons or Tesco, the leader publicly pronounces the cabinet is doing everything to protect the club?

This is the same cabinet that did not pursue unpaid rent until the public backlash became too great. The same cabinet that had one of their own party's councillors on the board of directors while this shambles developed? The same cabinet that refused scrutiny of this mess?

Jim Kenyon and Jesse Norman have emerged with credit during the last few months, but not a single cabinet member has.
