IN the September 25 issue of the Hereford Times, the death of Frank Austin Powell was announced.
This was very much appreciated by me Wendy (his wife) and his family.
As a result of this, we received numerous messages of condolence and cards from his old friends in Herefordshire. These were very comforting. We wish to convey our sincere thanks to you all.
After leaving his home at The Green Farm in Wellington, and the Young Farmers Club of course, he finally achieved his ambition of owning his own farm.
He moved to Western Australia in 1967, working for a sheep farmer, doing a lot of shearing on Merino sheep. Realising that his wages would not enable him to have his own farm, he bought a superphosphate-spreading business, which he did for 10 years. He was then able to purchase Lone Pine, near Pingelly, then Meurambine and then Marwonga, all sheep and cereal farms.
Austin kept his sense of humour and energy for hard work, but never forgot his family and friends in Herefordshire. He passed away the day after our 48th wedding anniversary, and his children James and Shona will carry on his legacy.
We endorse our thanks to all those who remembered him.
WENDY, JAMES AND SHONA POWELL Pingelly, Western Australia
