‘HOSPITAL trust faces battle for survival’ – a headline to sell papers or a probable outcome?

Many of the facts in the Care Quality Commission (CQC) report were well reported, including the support from other persons/organisations.

The WVT’s chief executive (CEO) Richard Beeken’s response that it was not ‘a failing organisation’ and that ‘the future still lies in our own hands’ is more a reality than your headline.

It is interesting that its new partner, the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, is also in the CQC Class 2 Band, which prompted them to conduct the care standards review at WVT!

As an attendee of the WVT’s board meetings held in public, I have every confidence in the new CEO and chairman meeting the challenges. The trust’s response in their press release of October 14 is a good summary of the findings and the actions already being taken.

They recognise the staff’s ‘extraordinary commitment to patients’ and ‘this extra support is good news for patients and good news for the trust’. I think we should recognise it too.

It’s Our Hospital and Our NHS – let’s do all we can to support them.
