A PEDESTRIAN complains of being buffeted by passing cyclists in pedestrianised areas, and threatens to post a record of offenders online (Menace on pavements, Letters, September 25).
This is a dangerous and increasing problem. In Monmouth, the new cycle track from Symonds Yat stops some distance short of the town, and cyclists often continue along the pavement past Lidl and across Monmouth bridge.
This is not safe; they should either dismount and walk, or stay on the road. I’ve asked the council to place notices, but they have refused.
Cycling on pavements is, of course, a criminal offence (Highway Code, paragraph 64), so there is always the option of complaining to the police, or for that matter, making a citizen’s arrest.
