WE enjoyed one of the most memorable evening’s entertainment since moving to Leominster almost 25 years ago.

Through the persistent efforts of local photographer, Mike James, Leominster Community Centre hosted the Arts Alive live satellite transmission of the National Theatre’s production of Medea with Helen McCrory in the title role.

This performance was the last night of the new production of Euripides’ tragic tale exploring the revenge of ‘a woman scorned’.

The sets, the costume, the chorus, music and dance and acting had us gripped by such a raw portrayal of a deeply hurt person; coldly moving from ‘sanity’ to a place so dark that in the end no-one could go with her into that almost primeval swamp beyond her home as she carried the evidence of her terrible revenge on her shoulders.

What a joy to be linked live with an audience of thousands from all over the country right here in our own town.

This was made possible because of one person who has spent many years bringing live theatre to Leominster and this must be his greatest coup to date.

Especially as the little tiered cinema/theatre that he created in the community centre holds only about 80 (so booking at the TIC is always advised for any show there).

May I also express our personal thanks to Mike and his family who together run the very successful fortnightly Flicks in the Sticks film screenings for Leominster at the community centre.

Where else can you go and be asked to suggest films you might like to see...or get a meal before the show...or an interval to have a coffee and chat with other film fans and friends?

We love it all...we wish we could go to every showing. Right now we hope we continue to get live link-ups with London theatre and musical productions in the future, even though we are such a tiny venue.
