I RECENTLY won judicial review quashing the decision to grant planning permission versus Herefordshire Council and Richard Williams of Penrhos Farm, regarding development of broiler units just 174 metres from my garden directly opposite my home.

Herefordshire Unitary Development Plan suggests a minimum of 400 metres. I have now received notification that this planning application is being redetermined.

I am appalled at the lack of consideration that the council planning department is giving to individuals whose lives are being destroyed by these chicken factories.

Not only myself and residents of Kington, but those near to the proposed development at Mansel Lacy, the recently approved site at Knapton, Presteigne and Kingsland, to mention just a few.

I have been informed that Ian Pick of Ian Pick and Associates (Driffield, East Yorkshire) is responsible for around 70 planning applications approved by Herefordshire planning department. It would appear that any planning application for chicken sheds is automatically passed by the council’s planning office, regardless of where it is situated.

We are advised (see planning application site) that it is the duty of Herefordshire planning department to protect the amenities and environment of Herefordshire – this they are not doing.

I am not the only one to be affected by this particular application.

The whole of Kington will be subjected to the disgusting, nauseating and unhealthy smell of chicken manure, and even more enormous 44 tonne articulated lorries on our inadequate roads.

I would urge all Kington residents to write to the designated planning officer Mr P Mullineux at PO Box, 230 Blueschool Street, Hereford HR1 2ZB or email him at pmullineux@herefordshire.gov.uk voicing their objections before July 5.
