HOW amazed and delighted I was to see the photograph (History Times, June 6) of my great uncle Albert Edward Farr, mayor of Hereford, presenting the celebratory cups to children at Lord Scudamore School on Coronation Day, 1953.
Amazing too, that I should be so honoured as to be the current mayor of Hereford 60 years on.
For me, in 2013, the coronation anniversary celebration included a wonderful service at the cathedral where a blow by blow' account of the actual event in Westminster Abbey was given by former Bishop of Hereford, Rt Hon John Oliver.
His memory of the day and the way he shared it with the congregation was special and wonderful to hear. I have my own memories as a five-year-old, dressing up and joining the party on the day, but being in Westminster Abbey must have been quite spectacular.
COUN PHIL EDWARDS, 632nd Mayor of Hereford City.
