ORGANISERS of the first ever Heritage Centre ‘drop in day’ in Ledbury last Saturday (March 24), are hailing it as a great success.

Spokesman Sally Holliday said: "Over 200 people came in over a four hour period: a mixture of local people and visitors from near and far.

"The building, in Church Lane, was buzzing with conversations since many volunteers were on hand to answer peoples’ questions and tell them all about the centre. Tea and coffee was provided and also cakes made by the volunteers."

She added: "Younger visitors had the opportunity to try out our new activities that have been developed over the winter by volunteers. They particularly enjoyed finding the lambs in the building and discovering their names: lambs, because of the connection with the East Anglian woollen merchants who are thought to have built the building, in around 1490."

The centre is offering new sales items this season, including post cards and greetings cards, which sold well. The cards show photographs of interest from the town, in black and white.

Mrs Holliday said: "An added bonus of the day was that we attracted some more volunteers to our team so we are in a very healthy position at the start of the new season, which begins this Friday, March 30."

The Heritage Centre is open every day between 10.30 and 4.30 until the end of October.

Mrs Holliday added: "If you live locally, make sure that any visitors you have in 2018 have the chance to visit our wonderful building.

"And if you are interested in joining our team, please ring 01531 633637 for more details."
