LEDBURY traders are looking beyond a Dickensian Christmas to Tudor times when it comes to celebrating the season.

New Street will be closed on Saturday, December 2, from 1pm to 4pm, for the town's inaugural Tudor Christmas Festival.

Organiser Helen Moody, of Enchant and Allure, said visitors could expect a number of attractions, from jesters and jugglers and fire breathers to lute players and carols from the time of Shakespeare and Elizabeth 1.

Andy Ward, landlord of The Talbot Hotel in New Street, will be King Henry VIII for the day.

And there will also be Tudor wreath-making and food on offer, made from genuine Tudor recipes.
