FRIENDS of Colwall Primary School are urging supporters to vote for a funding bid for a £10,000 grant.

The school is preparing to move into brand-new school premises in Mill Lane, early in the New Year.

And the Friends are raising money to fund equipment for the outdoor space and forest school at the new site.

Committee member Edd Hogan said: "While Herefordshire Council and the Department for Education have funded the building of the new school, there is a lack of funds for filling it with new equipment and providing the dynamic outside space that will inspire the children."

Mr Hogan is currently driving a bid for funding from the Aviva Community Fund, run by the insurance giant Aviva.

In order to win the £10,000 on offer, the Friends need to gather as many online votes in favour of their project as possible.

And Mr Hogan is urging everyone to show their support by visiting community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/17-1603.

Voting closes at noon on Tuesday, November 21, with the winners being announced shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile, head Helen Webb is inviting the community to see the new school at an afternoon tea event on Monday, November 6.

She said: "The old Victorian building was condemned in July 2014 and the school was decanted into a very large temporary portable building. This has not been ideal and the children and staff have worked in extreme temperatures, coped with a compromised outdoor space and put up with an environment which, at times, has been really challenging.

"Three years on and we have worked so hard to plan, design and build the new school and are preparing to move to a new site.

"I would like to recognise the support of the staff, families and the community who have stuck by the school through such a tricky time."

"I have invited the residents of Colwall Green to afternoon tea to thank them for being our neighbours, caring about us and putting up with all of the disruption."
