ONE of the biggest community events on the calendar is set to bring thousands of people to the Hazle Meadows venue, for the Ledbury Charity Fireworks Bonanza.

Last year saw crowds estimated at 4000 strong, and organisers are hoping for even bigger crowds for the event's second year.

On offer on Saturday November 4 will be two firework displays, including fireworks by Star Fireworks who, in 2013, were Champion of Champions in the British Firework Championships.

Main sponsor will be Ledbury auctioneers, H.J. Pugh and Co, and the main charity to benefit will be the Midlands Air Ambulance.

James Pugh said: "Ledbury likes parties, and last year was a fantastic event, with around 4000 people attending. We hope for even more this year, subject to the weather."

Westons has supplied five artic-loads of pallets and so the bonfire, which will be lit at 6pm, is going to be a really big one; and trees that have fallen in recent gales will add to the massive blaze. Ledbury firefighters will light the bonfire.

"It's a real community event," said Mr Pugh.

There will be firework displays at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Another highlight will be a win a prize competition for the best Guy, with £50 for the best guy, £30 for second and £20 for third.

Last year saw all the guys going on the bonfire with the exception of one. The pre-school youngsters of Busy Bees insisted that their Guy had to go back home with them, safe and sound.

Refreshments will include hot pork rolls by LDA Meats, Cider from Westons and beer from Marston's.

Ledbury Rugby Club will assist with the running of the event and there will be live music, including from the Ledbury Community Brass Band.

Ledbury's Venture Scouts will assist with the car parking arrangements.
