VISITORS ignored inclement weather, including a few heavy thunderstorms, to support the town open day held at Newent, near Ledbury.

Entertainers preformed under the black-and-white Market House, serenading visitors as they explored the town's attractions and shops.

The town's International Centre for Birds of Prey, the oldest centre of its type in the world, put on a display showcasing some of its fascinating raptors.

Katherine Noble, Newent's Town Clerk, said: "The town council is very pleased that the event achieved its aim in showcasing Newent as a small but attractive and vibrant market town full of diverse shops and businesses .

"Our many visitors will have returned home to spread the word and to return time and time again to shop, to lunch, and to explore."
