LEDBURY will be under the spotlight this Monday (July 17), when the Heart of England in Bloom judges decide whether or not the town is worthy of its eleventh gold medal in a row, from the Royal Horticultural Society.

The Ledbury in Bloom team has focused on the theme "All things bright and beautiful" this year.

But team members are also asking local people to go the extra mile with them this weekend and make sure the town's appearance lives up to the promise of the famous hymn title.

Ledbury in Bloom chairman, Clive Gunn said: "Anything that people can do to help smarten the town over this weekend will help.”

Mr Gunn, however, is proud of the hard work of the volunteers, over many months, which has helped to make Ledbury look its best.

He said: "If you venture into Ledbury early on Monday morning, you should find all things bright and beautiful. The team of volunteers have been busy for months with the usual tubs in the High Street and The Homend, the troughs at the Top Cross and keeping The Walled Garden as beautiful as normal.

"This year, however, has seen a major new venture, the refurbishment of Queens Walk and the adjacent Bridge Street Car Park."

He added: "Our small but dedicated band of volunteers have gone the extra mile to bring the public areas up to scratch. We hope that Ledbury will maintain its long run of gold awards. There are many jewels in Ledbury's crown to show the judges from the entrance to St. Katherine's Car Park to The Master's House and its gardens to the Millennium Garden on Bye St. to the Hereford and newly refurbished Gloucester Road roundabouts."

But the hard work of local residents will also play a key role.

Mr Gunn said: "This year they will also be shown the front gardens of Biddulph Way and Jubilee Close."

Ahead of judging day, Mr Gunn is also keen to hear of any projects which local residents have undertaken under their own steam, to help make Ledbury bloom.

These also can be mentioned to the judges on the day.

Mr Gunn said: "If you are involved in a project that helps make Ledbury bright and beautiful, firstly thank you and secondly if you would like your efforts recognised please be in touch. You can contact me on 01531 634716."

The judges will arrive in Ledbury this Monday, at 9.30am.
