A MAGNIFICENT 17th century manor near Upton will soon be host to a special cream tea event to raise vital funds for its local church.

The historic estate in Severn End, Hanley Castle, dates back to Jacobean times, and is home to Sir Nicholas Lechmere and his wife Caroline, who will host the event on Saturday, July 22, from 3pm to 6pm.

The event will be raising money for the Friends of St Mary’s Church, who dedicate their work to the preservation and maintenance of the church and its grounds, including war memorial repairs.

St Mary’s church dates back to the 12th century, is one of the oldest buildings in Hanley Castle, and is an important part in the community.

An array of homemade scones, jams, cream cakes and refreshments will be on offer at the event, along with entertainment from local musicians.

The entry fee is £5 per person, which includes a cream tea.

Sir Nicholas said: “I am really looking forward to welcoming people to the event and hope that they enjoy the delicious cream teas as well as the beautiful scenery. Hanley is a wonderful village with great community spirit, and we hope to raise much-needed funds for the church.”
