THE new mayor of Newent is Cllr Mrs June Davies, the first lady mayor of the town for over 30 years.
Cllr Mrs Davies who was born and brought up in the town, was elected at Newent Town Council’s annual general meeting on Monday.
Cllr Davies, who has been on the council for four years, said: “I am honoured to be elected as Town mayor and am looking forward to continuing the good work which has already been done during the past year in particular, and to leading the projects which are already in the pipeline, namely the town open day and the co-ordination of the youth advisory group. It is going to be a busy year and I look forward to the challenge”.
Cllr Eddie Wood was elected as deputy mayor at the same meeting.
