VOTERS in Ledbury wondering where to put the cross in the forthcoming General Election can get help from an unexpected quarter, the Christians Together in Ledbury group.

They are organising a General Election Hustings, "to give voters the opportunity to hear all the parties contesting this snap election", and it will be the second time in two years that the group has organised hustings for the local electorate.

A spokesman for Christian Together in Ledbury said: "Last time, in 2015, it was standing room only when a capacity crowd of over 180 Ledbury citizens squeezed in to St Katherine’s Hall to hear the five General Election hopefuls respond to a series of challenging questions on their policies and motivations.

"We expect an equally full turnout this time and, as before, are asking for questions to be sent via the churches beforehand, so that candidates face a fair spread of topics on the night."

The spokesman added: "However, there will be an opportunity to take some supplementary questions from the floor in the course of the meeting, and as always, the four hopefuls – Conservative, Green, Labour and Liberal Democrat - will not know the questions in advance.

"The churches in Ledbury believe that this open meeting will offer an opportunity for voters of any faith or of none to hear from all the candidates and make a considered judgement as to how to vote, and that it will strengthen democracy here in North Herefordshire."

The hustings will be held in the Community Hall, Lawnside Roast, at 7.30pm on Thursday June 1.

The General Election takes place on June 8.
