VOLUNTEER linguists are needed at Ledbury's Master's House to help translate leaflets for local residents and visitors for whom English is not their first language.

And those taking part will have the satisfaction of seeing their work included in an exhibition, at the end of March.

The project has been running since last autumn, but organisers want to see as many languages as possible represented.

Project leader and writer Liz Hyder, “We’ve been delighted by the wonderful response we’ve had from talented linguists in Ledbury and the surrounding area but we’d love to get the Master’s House materials translated into even more languages.

"It’s already been a great success and we’d love to extend it. There are so many people who are lucky enough to be fluent in more than one language and we’d love to hear from you if you’re one of them.

"The project – Translate the Master’s House – is open to hearing from those with expertise in any language. The project has already secured volunteers working in Welsh, Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and German but would dearly like to hear from anyone who is a speaker of Estonian, Romanian, Latvian, Russian, Portuguese, Mandarin or Lithuanian."

The medieval Master's House, on St Katherine's car park, operates as both a community hub and the town library.

Soon visitors from all over the world should be able to read how the Master's House, a Grade II-listed* building, is a remaining part of the medieval St. Katherine's hospital site, which was founded in 1232.

The Master's House itself dates from the late fifteenth century.

Prior to a £2.9m restoration, completed in 2015, much of the timber frame was encased in later Georgian and Victorian additions.
