A BOSBURY schoolgirl was so moved when she heard about other children losing their hair, because of cancer treatments, she decided to make an extra special sacrifice.

She arrived at her favourite hairdressers in Ledbury with a special, kindly request.

Alice Drury, who turned eleven in October, had her long blond hair cut off at Janet's Hair Salon in New Street.

But the 12 inches of hair that was cut off will now be used by the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides "real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment".

Alice's proud mum, Rachel said: "Alice said that she wanted to make a sad child happy.

"She always thinks of others before herself and when she heard about Little Princess Trust she said that she wanted to make a little girl with cancer feel happier. Hopefully we can raise awareness and more people will donate their hair.

"When Alice had her hair cut off, the hairdressers in Janet's were so moved that they gave Alice a whole styling session, which made her feel quite grown up."

Alice went to the Post Office herself to weigh and post the 12 inches of braided hair and she is eagerly awaiting her certificate from the Trust, which all hair donors get.

Alice's selfless gesture did not go unnoticed by her school.

An article in the primary's newsletter praised her for showing "values of generosity, courage, compassion, responsibility, friendship, respect and trust".
