BONFIRE night will be celebrated in style in Ledbury, with what may become a new town tradition at a new venue, and all the fun of the fair will be one of the big attractions.

Ledbury estate agents and auctioneer, HJ Pugh and Co are working closely with Ledbury Rotary Club, the traditional organisers of the town’s annual bonfire party, to offer “The Ledbury Firework and Bonfire Bonanza" at Hazle Meadow, opposite the rugby club on the Ross Road, on November 5.

For a number of years, the bonfire party has taken place at Ledbury Park, off the Southend; but this is a new location and a new formula.

James Pugh said: “My father has donated the land and he’s helping in a lot of other ways. We are hoping it will be a good night out, and if enough people like it, there’s no reason why it can’t become an annual event.”

The field is often used for car boot sales, organised by Pugh's.

At the bonfire party, rides will be provided by the Rogers Fun Fair and stalls will be selling snacks and foods.

There will also be a licensed bar and, as well as the bonfire, there will be two sessions of fireworks, for the first time.

Ledbury Rotary Club spokesman, Jan Long said: “Members of the public are encouraged to enter the "Best Dressed Guy" competition, which is open to all ages and will be judged by a panel of three prominent business people and guests. There is a splendid prize for the winner.”

The gates will open at 5.30 pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm, with the first session of fireworks at 7pm and then again at 8.30pm.

Tickets are available at Pugh’s offices in Market Street . Tickets may also be purchased at the gate on the night.

Mrs Long said: “ Funds raised will go towards supporting the marvellous work of the Prince's Trust. Join us for this exciting local party open to everyone and it is hoped to become an annual event.”
