RESEARCH appears to show that a number of GP health centres in Gloucestershire, including Newent, have been missed out of a review of Minor Injury Units in the Forest of Dean.

The proposals could affect both the Dilke and Lydney Hospitals, and they could lead to the closing both of the hospital’s Minor Injury Units at 8pm each evening, closing just one of the two at 8pm, or making no changes at all.

But new information suggests that four in five GP Health Centres in the Forest were unaware of the review.

Now calls are being made for Gloucestershire NHS to look into their ongoing Minor Injury Unit Review as figures suggest many GP practices throughout the county may have been missed out.

The figures have come to light following discussions between the Forest of Dean’s Health Champion, Cllr Craig Lawton, and a number of GP surgeries throughout the Forest.

Cllr Lawton said: "I was shocked when I rang around a number of health centres in the Forest.

“Of the five that I have spoken to in our major towns, just one was aware of the Minor Injury Unit review and had copies of the proposals as well as feedback forms for patients to have their say."

Only Cinderford confirmed that they had stocked information for patients about the review.

At the time of Cllr Lawton's phone call, Newent had no information the review, which opened on July 13 and is set to close on August 31.

Officials at the NHS Trust have already agreed to make changes to their website to make it easier for residents to have their say.
