A COUPLE from Ledbury are taking on a mammoth cycle challenge to raise money for charity.

Margaret and Bill Sayer will be turning 70 and 75 respectively in October, and wanted to take on a challenge to mark the occasion.

They decided to take on the London – Paris Cycle Challenge, which will see them cycle almost 300km to reach the famous Eiffel Tower.

Their challenge will be raising money for Marie Curie cancer care, which cares for people living with a terminal illness in their own homes and often overnight.

"We wanted to do the challenge to celebrate the fact that we are both still active and able to participate," said Mrs Sayer. "Marie Curie is such a worthwhile cause and helps so many people who are less fortunate."

Mr and Mrs Sayer will be starting their challenge from Crystal Palace on Thursday, July 21 and their first day will see them cycle to Newhaven where they will cross the English Channel by ferry to Dieppe.

The next two days they will cycle to Paris finishing at the Eiffel Tower, a total of around 290kms.
