PEOPLE described as Ledbury's best have been recognised by the town council's Distinguished Citizens' Awards.

Robert Waddington, the Chairman of the Friends of the Masters House, was nominated for "working tirelessly fund raising for and promoting the Masters House, and his leadership is vital to the Friends".

He has also played an instrumental role in setting up the Library User Group.

Pauline Bates was nominated for working steadfastly for the benefit of the community, including fund raising, including for Cockaynge Symdrome and Amy and Friends.

Laura Clarke was nominated for being the chairman of the Friends of Ledbury Children’s Centre. She supports the centre through raising awareness of its work, fundraising and offering activities to families. She also volunteers at Ledbury Primary School and Ledbury Brownies.

Sheila Gladwin and Linda Smith were nominated for raised thousands of pounds for local charities and organisations, by holding monthly bingo evenings.

Organisations supported include St Michael’s Hospice, Ledbury Town Football Club, Under 16’s Rugby, and the Children’s Centre.

Sally Holliday was nominated for her involvement in supporting many local organisations, such as Ledbury and District U3A, Town Plan, Ledbury Community Day, Youth Council, Heritage Centre, and the Food Group.

The awards were made at the annual town meeting, on April 28.
