FINAL preparations are under way for the Ledbury Community Day, when the very best the town has to offer will be on show again, in what is becoming a much-loved annual tradition.

Community Day will take place on Saturday, June 11 "as a fitting community event to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s official 90th birthday".

Event spokesman, Griff Holliday said: "Ledbury Town Council are providing the opportunity to sign a book of commemoration for this historic day at the Burgage Hall, and the Town Crier will deliver a loyal address at 11am outside the Market House; and Ledbury’s Town Mayor, Councillor Debbie Baker will be present, accompanied, in a first for this event, by the Ledbury Carnival Princess and attendants.

"Among the seventy plus groups taking part, we welcome this year for the first time Ledbury Refugee Support Group, the newly formed Ledbury Maritime Cadet Unit - who plan to bring their demonstration field gun to the event, the Countryside Restoration Trust, the German Group, Hereford and Ross branches of the Decorative and Fine Art Society, Ledbury and Colwall Children’s Society and Crossroads Carers Support."

Mr Holliday added: "This year the Community Hall will also be hosting groups, and you can discover there about everything from aikido through swimming, the plans for the swimming pool, healthy lifestyle training, safer driving, duplicate bridge and the county’s new Wellbeing Information and Signposting service (WISH). Ledbury Young Farmers will be there also to amuse and test you.

Visit the gardens being maintained by volunteers in town at the Millennium Garden, Bye Street and in the Walled Garden.

"And see the fabulous bunting created by volunteer embroiderers at the Master’s House – 280 pennants celebrating all those who helped with its restoration."

Mr Holliday added: "With much also to see and discover at the Burgage Hall, St Katherine’s Hall, the Master’s House and Library, the Parish Church, the Heritage Centre, the British Legion and the Methodist Church, there is something for everyone, even before trying bowls and tennis; and the band will play outside St Katherine’s, and a banjo band will join the fun at Leadon Bank."
