ORGANISERS of the Ledbury Big Breakfast, last weekend, are hailing it as a great success.

Nineteen local businesses took part, to offer the best possible hospitality with the best meal of the day.

Griff Holliday, secretary of the Ledbury Food Group said: "The weather smiled on this year’s Ledbury Big Breakfast on Friday January 29 and Saturday January 30.

"Friday started early with Bill Wiggin MP and Town Mayor Councillor Crowe marking the event by visiting cafés, butchers and shops, and the Country Market."

Mr Holliday added: "At the Market House Town Crier 'Bill the Bell' Turberfield welcomed representatives from the national Breakfast Week campaign, visiting Ledbury to find out more about this unique event, celebrating breakfast and Ledbury’s local food and drink.

"Nineteen food outlets in Ledbury and district took part, and excelled themselves with the range of delicious specials on offer. You could savour frittata at Nice Things, potato rosti at Cameron and Swan, smoked trout and scrambled eggs at the Feathers, a “deconstructed breakfast” at the Nest, the Market House Café’s “breakfast strata”, Scotch pancakes at the Scrumpy House, local ale and cheese rarebit at the Trumpet, a “breakfast stack” at Caffé 21 and locally cured meats at the Country Market, for example."

Mr Holliday continued: "For lighter tastes, the Muse put on porridge with fresh apple and cider sauce, and Delilah’s yoghurt and fruit. Traditionalists of all kinds were catered for with a hearty English at Mrs Muffins and Eggs Benedict at Chez Pascal. For aficionados of Rock and Roll, the Talbot excelled with its bingo brunch on Saturday.

Handley Organics with much initiative hosted a very well supported typical Syrian breakfast on both days raising £530 for medical charity Hand in Hand for Syria."

Four Oaks Delicatessen offered “Big Breakfast blinis” with a range of savoury or sweet fillings accompanied by hot apple juice.

Ledbury’s butchers joined the fun of the day. Llandinabo Farm Shop chose Liz Harvey’s sausage recipe featuring pear and Earl Grey tea as this year’s special, Waller’s featured their Black Pudding Bonanza, and Gurney’s had "dozens of local eggs on offer".

Mr Holliday said: "The event was very well supported with cafes busy on Friday, and with scarcely a breakfast table to be had at its busiest on Saturday.

“The response this year from both those taking part and those enjoying breakfast was splendid."
