WORDS were exchanged between two Ledbury town councillors over what is the proper way for one member of the council to address another.

The exchange took place at last week's full town council meeting in Ledbury Methodist Church, The Homend.

The incident took place when a new tourism brochure for Ledbury was about to be discussed.

Cllr Nick Morris had declared an interest concerning the agenda item, prior to this.

Turning towards Cllr Morris, fellow councillor Rob Yeoman said "this chap needs to leave", meaning that, because Cllr Morris had declared an interest, he should not then take part in the debate to follow, on the agenda item.

Cllr Morris, in response while leaving the chamber, said: "This chap has a name; I mean, how rude; you might as well say, 'git'."

Town Clerk, Karen Mitchell pointed out that the meeting was being recorded.

After the agenda item was discussed, Cllr Morris was invited back into the chamber, to participate in debate on the rest of the agenda items.

Cllr Yeoman, by way of explanation as why he had referred to Mr Morris as "this chap," said to him: "I'm sorry; I could not think of your name."

Up to £2000 from the town council's reserve funds can be used for a new tourist brochure for the Ledbury Locality area, not just Ledbury town itself.

The project will also be jointly funded by "local stakeholders" including Hellens, Eastnor Castle and Westons Cider.

The print run will be for 80,000 brochures.

A proof of the brochure was shown to town councillors for approval at last week's meeting.
