A MULTI-million pound makeover of Ledbury Swimming Pool will take place next summer.

Halo Leisure, working with Herefordshire Council, has announced the revamp of the Lawnside Road-based facility which will cost £2.3 million.

Work is set to start in the summer of 2016, and is expected to be completed by April 2017.

Scott Rolfe, chief executive of Halo Leisure - a social enterprise charity - said the refurbishment of the facilities for the thousands of Ledbury residents who use the swimming pool had long been a priority for the leisure group.

The announcement follows the £7.5 million spent by the leisure group transforming facilities in Bromyard, Hereford, Leominster and Ross.

Mr Rolfe said as well as the refurbishment of the pool area and its spectator area, there were also plans for a new larger gym, a work out studio to support group exercise classes and personal training, spa facilities and the introduction of a family-friendly changing village.

“We want visitors to Ledbury to enjoy top notch facilities which reflect our vision of “creating healthier communities” – our mission to see more people more active more often,” Mr Rolfe said.

Councillor Harry Bramer added: "This is great news for the people of Ledbury and indeed the people of Herefordshire.

"After the fear of closure of the pool over recent years, it is exciting to now be able to look to the future and to the benefits this new leisure facility will bring to the community."
