LEDBURY people can have their say next week on Herefordshire Council's proposed budget cuts for the next financial year.

At stake are possible cuts to services, including to Ledbury Library, in the Master's House.

The proposal here is to cut funding and have it run by volunteers.

The council will be carrying out a consultation exercise by the Market House, on Charter Market day, Tuesday 22 September, from 10am to 2pm.

A similar consultation exercise will take place at the Bromyard Centre on Thursday, October 1.

Herefordshire Council is reminding residents that there is still time to have your say on the 2016/17 priorities and budget consultation.

The joint consultation, which commenced on Thursday 23 July and runs until Friday 9 October, asks residents to rate the council’s priorities and income and savings proposals along with whether or not council tax should be raised above 2%, which would require a countywide referendum.

Councillor Tony Johnson, leader of Herefordshire Council, said: “All councils across the country need to significantly reduce their budgets and make unprecedented changes to services because of substantial reductions in government funding and Herefordshire Council is no different.

“This comes at a time when we’re facing unavoidable increases in costs and demand for services, particularly for our most vulnerable residents and as such I welcome residents’ views on our priorities, budget proposals and if we should hold a referendum to raise council tax above 2%. The information we receive will help to guide our decisions to ensure we deliver the right services whilst balancing our budget.”
