A TOTAL of £7000 was raised for mayoral charities in Ledbury in 2014/2015, when Cllr Bob Barnes was mayor.

Cllr Barnes said: "The funds raised during my time as mayor have been handed over to my nominated charities, Royal British Legion, Herefordshire and the SSAFA, Herefordshire branch.

"All the money raised will be used to support armed forces members, past & present, & their families in the County, including Ledbury."

He added: "I would like to thank all the people in Ledbury and district who supported my events, with a special mention to, Isaac’s Stores, who organised the fashion show; The Community Choir, for their fantastic donation from their Christmas concerts; Mr Dave Waller, who interrupted his Saturday trade to hold a tasting session; Mrs Ann Beard, whose David Beckham lookalike opening caused chaos; the 49 local business’s who donated services and prizes for my raffles and auction; the Officers and crew of HMS Ledbury, who undertook that incredible triathlon from Portsmouth to Ledbury, and Red Hot Boogie, who played at the December Dance and Celebration Ball."

Cllr Barnes said to the community: "You raised the money, not me, and both organisations were overwhelmed by the amount donated. It was a fantastic response from the town, and I thank you all."

He also thanked fellow town councillors and his wife, Carol, the former mayoress for their support.

Cllr Barnes said: "It was an honour to be your mayor and be given the opportunity to support these charities. My parents and grandparents served this country in time of war; this is a small instalment repaid off our debt of gratitude we all have for their sacrifice and the continuing sacrifice’s being made by today’s armed forces, safeguarding the freedoms we take for granted."
