A WOMAN was trapped in her wrecked car for more than an hour before being airlifted from the scene of a crash near Colwall yesterday afternoon.

The collision involving two cars happened on the A449 Worcester Road outside the Wellington Inn at Chances Pitch at around 4.15pm.

The drivers of both cars were still in their vehicles and crews had to work carefully to remove them both.

Police, two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a community paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene and asked people to avoid the area if possible while they treated the two patients. A rapid response vehicle was at the scene of the crash within six minutes.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Due to the nature of the injuries, ambulance staff worked with firefighters to very gently free the woman in the Peugeot after the roof had been taken off the car.

“She was treated for chest injuries, a suspected fractured pelvis, and a fracture dislocation to the ankle.  The woman, who was in her 30s, was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before being airlifted to a major trauma centre in Bristol due to poor weather in Birmingham.

“The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 30s, was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by land ambulance with chest and shoulder injuries after firefighters removed the door of his car to allow ambulance staff access."
