STAFF and students at Newent Community School have welcomed a strong set of GCSE results.

A school spokesman said: "We are delighted for our Year 11 students who picked up a great set of GCSE results from Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre.

"We are delighted that the overwhelming majority achieved the grades they required to take the next step in their lives, whether that be doing A levels or vocational course with us at Newent, attending college, taking up an Apprenticeship or entering the world of work."

The spokesman added: "We are delighted to report that, thanks to the dedication of our students and staff, the school is going from strength to strength with a very pleasing improvement on last year’s results or yet further sustaining of student high performance in Maths, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Fine Art, Business Studies, Child Development, French, Drama, Psychology and PE. "Furthermore we are delighted with students’ outcomes from their wide range of starting points with 66% A*-C overall."

A total of 22 students achieved at least 5 GCSE A or A* grades, and 50 students achieved at least 5 B grades or better, and 141 achieved at least 5 C grades.
