SIXTH-formers at Newent community school have hit another successful year with a 97 per cent pass rate, achieving university places on courses ranging from performing arts to law, biological sciences to maths, and criminology to automotive and transport design.

As well as going on to college, students will also be going on to a range of apprenticeships in the NHS, Unilever, Dowty, Two Rivers Housing Association, plus foundation course places at art colleges and elsewhere.

Among the star results are Rebecca Dean, with A*s in maths and further maths, A in physics and C in chemistry, taking her to Bath University.

Going onto Sheffield University, George Probert is to be congratulated on his A*s in English literature and history and B in government and politics at A2.

Other very successful A2 students include Jocelyn Saxelby with A*, A and B and Annabelle Hookway-Jones with two As and a B, both going on to study at Exeter University. Sophie Clifford achieved A* in art and design and a further A and B grade in graphics and drama. James Christie secured an A* in maths alongside Bs in further maths and physics and Pascal Neumann A* B B B (German, French, government and politics, and psychology).

There has also been a further improvement on the pass rate at AS. Tim Klee achieved no fewer than five A grade passes in German, maths, further maths, physics and chemistry; Daniel Carpenter achieved three As in maths, further maths and physics,. and James Summerfield in French, maths and further maths. Also special congratulations go to Frank Un who came to the school with very little English and has achieved grades A (maths) B (further maths) and C in physics.
