ALL patient records in Ledbury and the surrounding area are to be held electronically, meaning healthcare workers will no longer need to rely on having paper copies to hand.

Wye Valley NHS Trust has signed a contract with software provider IMS MAXIMS to implement a new system allowing records to be accessed from any building run by the organisation.

Consultant lead for IT at the trust Dr Jake Burdsall welcomed the new arrangement.

“To have visibility of a patient’s record, especially in emergency situations, is fundamental for improving care,” he said.

“You can’t underestimate the importance of having clinical information, be it past attendances, episodes or diagnostic results, to help make immediate and future decisions on a patient’s care.”

The new system is expected to be fully in place by the end of 2016.
