ONE woman has died and another has been injured following a serious road traffic collision between a car and lorry on the A449 near Ledbury this afternoon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Ross Road, Ledbury, at just before 3.25pm.

Two ambulances and a paramedic support officer, a community paramedic, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene.

Fire fighters from Ledbury, Fownhope and Hereford Stations also attended and freed the women from the wreckage.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a car in collision with a lorry on the A449 near Ledbury.

“The driver of the car, a woman, suffered serious injuries and whilst ambulance staff worked to administer emergency care she deteriorated and went into cardiac arrest.

“Advanced life support was commenced on scene and continued en route to Hereford Hospital.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead shortly after arrival in A and E.

“A passenger in the car, a woman believed to be in her sixties, was treated for a fractured arm. She was immobilised with the use of a neck collar and spinal board before being transferred by land ambulance to Hereford Hospital.

“The lorry driver was uninjured and did not require hospital treatment.”

The A449 between Ledbury and Prestons Cross was closed while emergency swervices dealt with the situation.
