A CHARITY event at a Ledbury school raised more than four times its original target to help fund the fight against cancer.
Svetlana Zenihova, a learning support practitioner, arranged Ledbury Primary School's own Race For Life event after learning last year that one of her own friends was diagnosed with cancer.
She was keen to take part in fundraising and decided to organise a Race for Life-type event at the school itself, with all the pupils running a lap of the playing fields.
She said: "We were unsure if many children would be interested in doing this and our target was £500. We expected £1 from each child from our school. The race went very well and the children loved it."
And the fundraising went far better than expected, with £2,467 having come in to far. She said: "Every child got a medal. Than they can keep the medal and wear it with pride, because they did something very important. Every pound counts, and I believe that children today will beat cancer tomorrow."
