A MALVERN woman who was more than twice the drink-drive limit when she was arrested for driving at 80mph on a 40mph road has been banned from getting behind the wheel for 20 months.

Kirsty South of Guarlford Road appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court where she admitted driving with 76mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath on Saturday, April 4 – more than twice the legal limit of 35mcg.

Prosecutor Owen Beale told the court police pulled South over after spotting her driving on Guarlford Road – a 40mph road – at about 80 mph.

Nick Roberts, defending, said the 29-year-old had been to the pub after a “stressful” day at work.

“She had two large glasses of wine and thought she was ok,” he said. “But she wasn’t.”

Deputy District Judge Jim Tindall said: “We all have stressful periods at work and I’m absolutely sure that this is the first time you’ve ever been to these courts and probably the last time.

“But that can’t take away from the seriousness of what you did.

“You were not only significantly over the limit but driving at speed as well.

“It was pure luck you didn’t hurt anyone.”

South was banned for 20 months and fined £300 as well as a £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
