AN AUTHOR has written his second book about life working as a shepherd and farmhand in Yorkshire and Herefordshire.
Trevor Robinson, 84, who lives near Ledbury, published Working with the Curlew about his teenage experiences of rural living in 2003.
He has now followed it up with From Sunrise to Sunset, which focuses on stories and anecdotes of his time farming from the age of 20 onwards.
Mr Robinson, who is a keen enthusiast of sheep dog trials and has written numerous articles for sheep dog magazines, said: “From Sunrise to Sunset is a social history.
“It is not just about farming – it is about country lifestyle and is of general interest.
“Farming has been a joy, a wonderful life, and it was fantastic when we had a good lambing season or a good crop.
“But we were under great financial pressure and at times it was pretty desperate with a lack of money.”
Mr Robinson left school aged 16 and took on his own 32-acre farm in Leominster in 1950.
He later moved to the Yorkshire moors and continued farming until 1987.
The new book features a foreword by Dame Ellen MacArthur and will be launched in Malvern Book Co-operative, Saint Ann's Road, on Tuesday, February 10, at 7.30pm.
