THE National Trust in Herefordshire is urging people to take time to reflect on a winter walk.

The Trust says it has a range of inspiring places for people to enjoy.

Harry Bowell, Regional Director for the National Trust in the Midlands, said: “Gardens, parks and the countryside all have a stark beauty at this time of year. With no leaves on the trees, you can appreciate the size and structure of ancient and veteran trees. Winter opens up our landscapes like no other season, with new and unexpected views.”

The Trust has created a web site for encourage folks to lace on their walking boots, and the list includes the Brockhampton estate, near Bromyard and Berrington Hall, near Leominster.

Berrington Hall is described as "a perfect place to relax and unwind on one of its three way marked walks through the ‘Capability’ Brown designed parkland which take in the stunning lake".

The Brockhampton Estate offers "a range of trails from gentle strolls through to more adventurous walks through the park and woodland, featuring ancient trees, the picturesque Lawn Pool and various sculptures".

At Croft Castle and Parkland, also near Leominster, visitors can pick up information about walks from the visitor reception including a stroll up to the Iron Age hill fort for a glimpse of the Brecon Beacons.

Iain Carter, Herefordshire Countryside Manager, added, “A winter stroll along the Fishpool Valley walk at Croft is just perfect. The leaves crunch with frost under your feet and in the mornings the cobwebs glisten with dew on the trees.”
