NEW analysis of Highways Agency data by Churchill Car Insurance highlights that in the week leading up to Christmas there will be 403 disruptions on A and M roads across the UK.

The M5 will be the fifth worst affected motorway in the run up to festive celebrations, with the M4 topping the list.

Works to alter the bridge over the A38 at junction 5 of the M5 near Droitwich, which began on Friday, December 5, are scheduled to continue throughout December and will be completed by May according to highways.gov.uk

Steve Barrett, head of Churchill Car Insurance, said: “Christmas is one of the few times in the year when whole families are able to get together, so at peak times there is extra activity on the roads.

“Our analysis shows that there are hundreds of road disruptions planned in the week before Christmas.

“Motorists should plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes, allowing more time for their travel as there will inevitably be significant delays.”
