HEREFORDSHIRE Council hopes that using LED lighting for street lighting will save £13.3m over the next 20 years.
The lights are designed to last almost a quarter of a century
The £5.5m project will be rolled out over the next year, but the authority has already spent about £1.5m converting 30% of its streetlights, including in Ledbury, where there is currently a mix of LED streetlights and the older orange-colour streetlights, which are less energy efficient
As well as reducing running costs, the long lifespan of the LED lights will cut maintenance bills, the council believes.
